Now we’re getting serious. We’re talking world-class status here.
Let’s start with a few quick questions: what separates those who are incredibly successful from those who are regretfully unsuccessful?
Or to put it another way, how are some people world-class at something while other people are simply pretty good at it?
Basically, what does it take to learn how to be world-class?
Well, the answers to all those questions are the same, and that’s some people have passed the 10,000 test while others have not. That’s it! That’s the whole quesadilla.
Now the question is: are we prepared to pass the 10,000 test ourselves?
I hope so, because there’s no way around it. If we REALLY want to learn how to be world-class at something we need to dedicate 10,000 hours to it. That’s the hard truth.
10,000 hours of practice is required to achieve the level of world-class in anything worthwhile.
Over and over again in studies on world-class musicians, athletes, scientists, and just about every other category or profession, the 10,000 hours of practice pops up again and again.
It’s simply considered the price of being world-class and it’s equivalent to practicing roughly three hours per day, or 20 hours per week, for over ten years.
That’s the real deal. Sure, we can probably try and cut some corners here and there, but overall there hasn’t been a case in which true world-class status was achieved in less time.
So, for better or for worse, 10,000 hours is the number.
In the end, it appears our brains and bodies need that amount of time to fully integrate everything needed to become world-class. There’s no short cuts for it either.
I know this sounds like a drag, however there is a lot of strength in knowing this information.
Because if we think it’s going to be hard to dedicate our 10,000 hours, just imagine how hard it will be to complete against someone who HAS dedicated their 10,000 hours when we haven’t.
10,000 hours of practice does seem unbelievable. I hear that. However, let’s look at the bright side: we’ve probably banked a bunch of hours already.
So, let’s get back at it and give it all we’ve got. I mean, what else are we going to do, watch TV? Screw that!
That’s ultimately how to be world-class while further tapping into our inborn power.
This will bring us closer to living as the most complete version of ourselves immediately.
